MISSION STATEMENT

Dillon Savage and Tyler Ray Hawkins created ATHENS Theatre Group out of a need to create something they were not seeing themselves: Affordable, intimate theatre that told the stories of the people and themes they knew and/or wanted to see on a stage. Something for everyone. Something that creates an experience with a piece of theatre unlike one you’ve had before.

Placing the audience at the center of the action allows them to feel as though they are inside the room with the characters of the piece. Being so close to the actors creates a beautiful connection to every person in the room, which makes our decisions about exclusivity an easy choice, at ATHENS Theatre Group, exclusivity ≠ unaffordability. We keep our seat numbers low due to the spaces we play in (small venues and found spaces primarily), but also because every night is a unique experience between everyone in the room. We encourage our shows to be places to meet new friends and maybe new collaborators.

ATHENS Theatre Group is an intimate theatre group for all audiences.

The Founders


  • Co-Founder, Actor, Producer, Director

    Dillon is a Brooklyn-based actor, musician, and producer. BFA in Musical Theatre - Missouri State University. Training includes the Yale Summer Actor’s Conservatory and Juilliard Extension. NYC: Jakob Engstrand - Ghosts (Athens), Romeo - Romeo and Juliet (Athens), iGersh - Max and Molly (Across a Crowded Room @ Lincoln Center). Regional: Richard Hannay - The 39 Steps (Tent Theatre), Doody - Grease (Tent Theatre).

    Co-Founder of ATHENS Theatre Group. Works include: The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet (ATHENS Theatre Group), GHOSTS (ATHENS Theatre Group).

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

Thank you for your interest! ATHENS conducts auditions on a show-by-show basis. Most shows we create will be made with the cast already brought on board. This does not mean that we never take auditions. If you would like to submit an audition, please follow these instructions and send the tapes our way.
